Hillside Beau
Hillside beau in spongy heath
Laid bear to God though lush beneath
Tempting all to brave fierce gust
To mount and crown your peering thrust,
You live the part as pedestal;
A looking point from Eden’s peak
Indifferent to the Fall.
Your scrubby fell completes my sight
With distance lit by coloured flight
And splendid throws of earthly blooms
Spraying reams of pearls and tombs.
Southern vales heave back afar
Spilling woods to east and west
Bestowing bearings to clamour forth
To mighty, flowing, sweeping North!
Hillside beau, my spirit’s throne,
My humble view, my ever known.
