Acceptance in the Church

We walk unlike the pilgrim east,
Our way and means unholy set,
We walk with not a place on Earth,
No safe house from imbued regret,
The immutable issue, the parching threat
That freedom leads the snaring net
As frequent pounds on tandem feet
Along the searing, canyoned street
The Devil’s fervent beat emits
Cacophony of fate.
The price becomes less bearable
The more you jump the gate.

We walk unlike the pilgrim east
Relieved to meet the water’s lap;
Fatigue has caused us headiness
Pitched amongst the tourist trap
But still the water laps
In around chaotic gaps
Of heads and swarms and bustle
And on the water laps
From here to where
We aim our aching muscle.

We walk unlike the pilgrim east
Along the fettered shore
With jetties bare, whilst no one dare
Accept the springtime soar.
The irony, it resonates
While resting in review -
Acceptance of our pilgrimage
Is what we’ve tramped on for.
In shade we hold each other’s hand
And make our own this borrowed land.

We walk unlike the pilgrim east
And shuffle down the aisle
And take a pew behind the mass
And shudder all the while.
Then ends the din, at once begins
An uncanny trial:

Save the light, hypocrisies,
Stave off,
Ply in,
Will out.
Pray credence for democracies,
Unite
With love
Devout.

Commanded by this tryst we file
Emblazoned by our mission
Yet semblance of the prisoned route
Embodies ghosts that break our vision
And vaults the fire into our hearts
To raze complete these wooden parts
And burns the idol spun of wool
Beyond a singe, disintegrates,
Ignites the flame inside us all,
Lets loose the smoke and fumigates.
