Remembering Karlstad
I remember the city of Karlstad
Placed at the head of the table,
Sat with a veil and a wedding train
And a glint in her eye on her happiest day
With the hint of a laugh
(Even if it be known)
Sketched in fleets by the arms of the sun;
Sophie, you were the sun.
I remember the marshes at Bergholmen,
Swamps boardwalked past ruins and myth
In a mazing dread, deep horror thrust
From sprung banked mounds and eves of mistrust
With the end never end
Over crest, around bend
Till release to the wilds of a delicate bloom;
Swimming bridal bouquet.
I remember us sitting at Fryken
After rambling Värmland by road,
Sheltering, huddled on a lone isle block
Lapped gently by ripples from the trolls and what not.
Will they reach us by boat
On a whimsical float?
Freed by a wood nymph’s feathered high note
That you feel but don’t hear.
I remember the city of Karlstad
Placed at the head of the table,
Sat in good cheer with a knowing smile
And a toast to the loved ones that make it worthwhile.
When our ventures run clear
To a land not so near
We will melt and be one and let light shine upon
The most bountiful bonds.
